Toyota Industries faces crackdown for engine emissions cheating - Nikkei

Japan:Nikkei, a news agency, said on Monday that Japan's transport ministry is planning to take action against one of Toyota Motor Corp.'s main businesses for allegedly cheating on engine emissions testing. This action could involve removing certification for certain engine models.

Citing persons with knowledge of the situation, the article stated that the ministry will direct Toyota Industries, the biggest producer of forklift trucks worldwide, to take action to stop a "recurrence of the misconduct". output

When Reuters asked Toyota for comments, the company did not answer right away.

Toyota Industries, which also produces electronics, textiles, and automobiles, might lose its certification for an excavator engine, according to the article.

It also said that the ministry seemed to be planning a similar move with two different forklift engine models.

"The regulator will weigh the severity of the misconduct before deciding whether to do the same for engines used in Land Cruiser vehicles and HiAce vans," according to the newspaper.

According to Nikkei, the corporation lied to the ministry in January about its misbehavior, which included manipulating performance test results for several forklift and car engine models.output
