JEDDAH:
Charles Leclerc of Ferrari qualified alongside Red Bull's triple world champion Max Verstappen on the first row of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Friday, completing his flawless start to the Formula One season.

Due to Ramadan, the race on Saturday has been moved ahead one day. Red Bull's Sergio Perez qualified third. Last year, Perez won in Jeddah, one of just three races that Verstappen did not get to win.

Verstappen, the 2022 Jeddah winner, had not start from the top position at the Corniche track before, thus this was another first for him.

That qualified beautifully. The 26-year-old Dutchman, who won in Bahrain by starting from pole position, leading the entire race, claimed over the team radio that "the car was on rails."

"In the car today, I felt really at ease." The pace at which you go around here during qualifying was almost insane," he remarked afterwards.

Verstappen and Leclerc will be lining up side by side on the front row for the fourth time this Saturday.

Oscar Piastri of McLaren qualified fifth, Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin qualified fourth, and teammate Lando Norris qualified sixth.

Starting eighth and seventh for Mercedes, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda of RB, and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin round out the top ten.

Oliver Bearman, a British eighteen-year-old, was brought in as a late substitute for Carlos Sainz, who suffered from appendicitis and underwent surgery on Friday. Bearman will start his race career for Ferrari in eleventh position.
